OTFSC HISTORY

     The Oak to Timberline Fire Safety Council was formed in 2005.  At this time the tree mortality rate in the Central Sierra was becoming quite large. A group of local property owners in the Miramonte and Pinehurst communities decided it was time to try to prepare their area for the potential massive wildfires that resulting from so much dead timber.

The Pinehurst Community Fuel Break, the Brookside Fuel Break, and the Miramonte Fuel Break are part of California Climate Investments, a statewide initiative that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment — particularly in disadvantaged communities.
